<br />002841 <br /> <br />Goal 2 Objectives and Tasks (.) <br /> <br />Objective 1: Achieve recovery goal for Colorado pikeminnow in the San Juan River. <br /> <br />+ Complete bioenergetics study initiated in 1998. <br /> <br />+ Determine appropriate methods to achieve the recovery goal for Colorado pikeminnow <br />in the San Juan River, <br /> <br />Objective 2: Expand the population size of the existing population of Colorado plkeminnow. <br /> <br />+ Complete the Genetics Management Plan and a Colorado pikeminnow Augmentation Plan. <br /> <br />+ Augment the population in compliance with the Augmentation Plan. <br /> <br />+ Assure that a dependable source of fish for stocking is available. <br /> <br />Objective 3: Expand the population of Colorado pikeminnow to the area above Shiprock. <br /> <br />+ Prepare a white paper on the temperature issues surrounding Navajo Dam releases and <br />the endangered fishes and the need for modifying Navajo Dam release temperatures, <br /> <br />+ Stock Colorado pikeminnow in the upper San Juan River and monitor the population to <br />detennine habitat use, survival, and additional stocking needs. <br /> <br />+ Use radiotelemetry to determine spawning areas and movement throughout the upper river <br />as the fish grow. <br /> <br />+ Determine the need for additional fish-passage structures at the diversions and design and <br />construct any required structures, <br /> <br />+ Complete fish passage structures at Hogback and PNM weirs, <br /> <br />+ Expand larvae and young monitoring upstream to the mouth of the Animas River as the <br />population expands in the upper river, <br /> <br />+ Detennine the percentage oflarvae entrained in, versus the percentage oflarvae that drift <br />past, the diversion structures. <br /> <br />+ Develop screened intake options for the diversions from these studies, if needed. <br /> <br />5-4 <br /> <br />Program Evaluation Report <br /> <br />September 2000 <br />
