T lQt!. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, P. L. 92-514; Stat. 964, authorized the construction, operation <br /> <br />and maintenance of the Closed Basin Division, San Luis Valley Project, <br />Colorado; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the construction and operation of the project will greatly <br />alleviate problems on the Rio Grande, will facilitate the United States <br />fulfilling its international treaty commitments, and will foster harmony <br />among the states; and <br />WHEREAS, the Commission views, with a sense of dismay, the lack of <br />speedy progress 'in the development and construction of the project and the <br />adverse impact that such lack of progress may have upon the great public <br />benefits to be derived from the project; <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Rio Grande Compact Commission <br /> <br />assembled in its annual meeting at Santa Fe, New Mexico on the 27th day <br />of March, 1980, that the Congressional delegations of the States of Colorado, <br />New Mexico, and Texas, as well as the Department of the Interior and the <br />federal government be urged to take whatever steps are necessary to proceed <br />immediately with the construction of the Closed Basin Division San Luis <br />Valley Project, in the order and stages set forth in the authorizing <br />legislation; and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Secretary forward a copy of this <br />Resolution to the members of Congress of the respective States, to the <br />President of the United States, the Director of the Office of Management <br />and Budget, the Secretary of the Interior, the Commissioner of the Water <br /> <br />Power and Resources Service, and to the Governors of the Compact States. <br /> <br />,_ ~,.;__,~.. _~ _~"'7 _~~_~ ___-""".__. _ ...-__ <br /> <br />i' <br />
