The water rights are critical to the development of

Chevron's property. Therefore, Chevron is vitally interested

in the Colorado River Salinity Standards under consideration by

the Water Quality Control Commission at this time.

Chevron supports the continuation of numeric salinity

standards at Hoover Darn, Parker Darn and Imperial Darn, and the

narrative, as opposed to a numeric salinity standard, within

the State of Colorado. This approach recognizes that any water

quality problem caused by salinity is apparent only in the

lower basin states and not within the State of Colorado and is

consistent with the Forum developed basin wide approach for

controlling salinity in the Colorado River. This basin wide

approach insures that individual water users and new water

development projects will not bear a disproportionate burden in

meeting the salinity standards. Chevron cannot support any

salinity standard or plan of implementation which does not

recognize and allow for the continued development of the

compact allocated waters" The Commission should assure

< 182
