<br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />April 11, 1956 <br /> <br />1962 <br /> <br />September 26, 1968 <br /> <br />1973 <br /> <br />July 4, 1975 <br /> <br />1974-77 <br /> <br />September 1979 <br /> <br />December 1979 <br /> <br />July 1980 <br /> <br />Oll1218 <br /> <br />ANIMAS - LA PLATA PROJECT. <br /> <br />History of Events <br />As of August 31,2003 <br /> <br />The Congress, through the Colorado River Storage Act <br />of April 11, 1956 (P.L. 84-485,70 Stat. 105), <br />authorizes a feasibility study of the project. <br /> <br />Reclamation finds the project to be "engineeringly <br />sound and financially sound and feasible." <br /> <br />The Congress, through the Colorado River Basin <br />Project Act of September 26, 1968 (P.L. 90-537, <br />82 Stat. 885), authorizes construction of the project, <br />consisting of Howardsville Reservoir near Silverton, <br />Hay Gulch Reservoir 25 miles west of Durango, <br />Meadows Reservoir, 48 miles of canals and tunnels <br />and a diversion of the Animas River at Taft, halfway <br />between Durango and Silverton. The Project was <br />authorized to provide irrigation and M&I water <br />supplies to the Colorado Ute Tribes and other project <br />beneficiaries. <br /> <br />Congress appropriates funds for advance studies. <br /> <br />Passage of the Indian Self Determination and <br />Education Assistance (ISDEA) Act (P.L. 93-638). <br />Applies only to the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the <br />Indian Health Services. <br /> <br />An advisory team of State, Federal, and local officials <br />considers about 30 alternate plans for the project in <br />response to environmental concerns. <br /> <br />A definite Plan Report detailing a new project <br />configuration including Ridges Basin and Southern <br />Ute Reservoirs is completed by Department of the <br />Interior. <br /> <br />Endangered Species Act (ESA), non-jeopardy opinion <br />is issued by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). <br /> <br />The Final EIS is completed for ALP. <br /> <br />1-2 <br />
