0005J9 AprU 1971 SUMMARY SHEETS Bluestone Project, Colorado LOCATION West-central Colorado between the towns of Rifle and DeBeque along the Colorado River and its tributary, Roan Creek.. INVESTIGATIONS The Bluestone Project, consisting of the Roan Creek and Sharrard Park segments, has been investigated to feasibility standards and found to be physically feasible and economically justified. A possible extension of the project, consisting of a storage and power development at the Una site on the Colorado River, has been invest- igated in reconnaissance scope. Further consideration of the exten- sion will depend on water needs with future development of the proj- ect and on plans of private' interests who are considering development in the vicinity of the .site. k, :,j J , , BLUESTONE PROJECT--FEASIBILITY STUDIES PROJECT PLAN I ~ Both the Roan Creek and Sharrard Park segments of the Bluestone Proj- ect would provide water for irrigation and for municipal and indus- trial use in connection with development of oil shale and other minerals and would benefit fish and wildlife. Also the Roan Creek segment would provide new recreational opportunities. Project water for the Roan Creek segment'would be provided by stor- age regulation of surplus Roan Creek flows in Mt. Logan Reservoir, project-developed return flows, and water lifted from the Colorado River by the project's Kobe Pumping Plant. . Mt. Logan Reservoir would be at an offstream site and suppl~d with water from Roan Creek by feeder canal. The irrigation supplies would be distributed by Mt. Logan Canal diverting from the reservoir, Kobe Lateral extending from the Kobe Pumping Plant, and existing ditch systems. Mt. Logan Reservoir would provide a fishery habitat and increased recreational opportunities. i_ L: ,- , , Water for the Sharrard Park segment would be diverted directly from the Colorado River by the long-abandoned Havemeyer Canal and Diver- sion Dam that would be reconstructed by private interests. Some of the project water would be made available at the canal terminus and the remainder lifted to higher areas through two successive Sharrard Park Pumps. Water supplies would be distributed by Sharrard Park Laterals. A deer watering basin would be provided near the uper lateral terminus. , I , L. I
