<br />002020 <br /> <br />o Alternative B -- Include all eligible segments of the Los <br />pinos River and its tributaries of Lake Creek, Flint <br />Creek, Rincon La Osa, Rincon La Vaca, Snowslide and <br />Sierra Vandera in the National system. <br /> <br />o Alternative C -- Include all eligible segments of the Los <br />pinos River and its eligible tributaries (named above), <br />except Lake Creek, in the National system. This would <br />allow the pine River Irrigation District to develop its <br />water right at Emerald Lake. <br /> <br />The study team recommended Alternative B, which would result <br />in designation of approximately 54 miles of streams and 17,300 <br />acres of wilderness landscape in the river corridor. <br /> <br />Impacts of Desiqnation (from Study Report) <br /> <br />Given that the river is already in a wilderness area and <br />private land is not involved, and that the river is not suitable <br />for white-water boating, the only impacts of designation would be <br />the annual cost for operation, maintenance, and administration, <br />which was estimated at $7,000, and the opportunity cost of water <br />impoundment at Emerald Lake and mineral exploration in the river <br />corridor being foregone. The river would apparently receive no <br />greater protection than already afforded to it as a component of <br />the Weminuche wilderness Area. <br /> <br />Current Legislation (S. 1084) <br /> <br />S. 10B4 would designate the same reaches and classifications <br />as the study report recommended. <br /> <br />Ibm <br /> <br />-2- <br />
