002JJ9

Study Team Recommendation

The study team recommended that the Colorado portion of the
Encampment River be included in the National System as a wild
river. See attached map.

Impacts of Desiqnation (from Study Report)

o Implementing the proposal would retain current scenery,
low erosion rates, good water quality, and fish and
wildlife values in the river corrider.

o Designation of the river as wild would prohibit water and
power development on the river and would withdraw the
river corridor from mineral entry, except for existing
claims.

o Annually about 14 man-years of employment, $540,000 of
sales, $170,000 of income, and l.a million board feet of
timber would not be contributed to the national economy
as a result of wild river designation.

Current Leqislation

There is no current legislation pending on the Encampment
River.

Ibm

-2-
