In addition to tremendous local support for <br />the Monument, the Works Project Administration and <br />the Civilian Conservation Corps provided labor and <br />funding for road grading, construction ofthree overlooks <br />and campgrounds. <br /> <br />BLCA boundary expanded to 13,667 acres, and various <br />plans for management and designations of BLCA <br />proposed and considered. <br /> <br />11,180 acres of BLCA designated by Congress as the <br />Black Canyon of the Gunnison Wilderness Area. <br /> <br />State of Colorado designates Gunnison River as Gold <br />Medal Trout Fishery. <br /> <br />BLM's Gunnison Gorge designated as Wilderness Study <br />Area. <br /> <br />Senate appropriates $1.2 million to acquire 2,429 acres <br />of "viewshed" rights on north and south rims of BLCA <br />Monument. <br /> <br />Congressman Mike Strang introduces Black Canyon <br />National Park legislation, comprising the Black Canyon <br />of the Gunnison National Monument, CurecantiNational <br />Recreation Area, and the Lower Gunnison Wild and <br />Scenic River. <br /> <br />Gunnison Gorge Citizen's Workgroup established to <br />help prepare BLM's Recreation Area Management Plan <br />(RAMP) Addition. <br /> <br />000869 <br />
