The watershed is about 60 miles in length and averages about 13 <br />miles in width. The valley is considered a closed basin with Saguache <br />Creek flowing into the San Luis Lakes. <br /> <br />The watershed contains about 454,000 acres. The watershed boundary as shown in the application appears to <br />be raasonable and will be checked during detailed planning. <br /> <br />Physical Characteristics <br /> <br />Topography and Drainage Pattern <br /> <br />Saguache Creek Watershed is located in the San Luis Valley portion <br />of the Southern Rocky Mountain physiographic province. Elevations range <br />from 13,895 feet at the Continental Divide in the La Garita Mountains at <br />the west end of the watershed to about 7,560 feet at the southeastQ~ end <br />of the watershed near Moffat, Colorado. <br /> <br />The upper part of the watershed varies from rugged mountain slopes <br />to open parkland. Numerous tributary streams coma together to fo~ <br />Saguache Creek which drains eastward to the San Luis Valley. ~e valley <br />of Saguache Craek broadens out into a large alluvial fan starting about <br />six miles west of the Town of Saguache and extending on out into the San <br />Luis Valley.
