<br />0\)24'74 <br /> <br />o Available timber harvest would be reduced by 400,000 <br />board feet per year. <br /> <br />o Increasing numbers of recreationists would be attracted <br />to the river. <br /> <br />o Scenic and conservation easements would be acquired over <br />1,653 acres of private lands within the visual corridor. <br /> <br />Current Legislation (S. 1084) <br /> <br />S. 1084 would eliminate approximately 23 of the 50,9 miles <br />recommended for designation in the final study report. This <br />reflects OMB's position that private lands not be included in <br />designated rivers on budgetary grounds, This would remove the <br />direct impact which designation would have on about 2700 acres of <br />private land within the river corridor, <br /> <br />A large portion of this 23 miles lies within the Weminuche <br />Wilderness Area. Some feel that it should be added back into the <br />bill. The Forest Service, however, maintains that the river will <br />b~lprovided adequate protection through the Wilderness Act. <br /> <br />-3- <br /> <br />
