To customize the
length of time before the application hangs up, click on the Options button in
the Connection Timer dialog, or the Auto Hangup bunon in the Preferences
dialog.

5.2.5 Advanced Topic: Modem Initialization Strings

Users with modem experience may wish to send commands to the
modem before every dial. The Modem Initialization String dialog
provides a mechanism for doing this. To change the modem.control
string, select Modem Inlt. from the Preferences dialog. For the
modem control string, you can enter any command that your modem
will accept. A list of modem commands should be provided in your
modem manual. In the Gateway PCMCIA modem manual, the Com-
mand reference is on pages 2-3 to 2-10. The default modem initializa-
tion string is "An..I ATS30=30". The first command turns the
volume to low, and the second command sets the modem to discon-
nect after 25-30 minutes of inactivity. SPWRMS itself will hang up
the modem when it exits normally. The ATS30 command adds an
extra measure of safety. In the event that the application dies or exits
abnormally without hanging up, the modem itself will do the job.

7/31/94 14
