Walker <br />Deputy Director <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Congressmen Cheney and Miller have introduced H.R. <br />1246, a bill "To establish a federally declared Floodway for the <br />Colorado River below Davis Dam"; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br />flood damages <br />Colorado River <br /> <br />this bill has been introduced in response to the <br />which occurred along the lower mains tern of the <br />in 1983; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, those damages <br />development had been permitted <br />floodway below Hoover Dam and even <br />in some instances; and <br /> <br />occurred primarily because <br />in the originally intended <br />within flood protection levees <br /> <br />WHEREAS, those damages <br />operation of the Colorado <br />within the requirements <br />Regulations; and <br /> <br />, 111'- <br />" ,\'" . 1/ " <br />occurreQ despite th~\ fact that the <br />River reservoirs in 1983 was well <br />of the Hoov~r Dam Flood Control <br /> <br />I ,'- <br />WHEREAS, inappropriate developments in the. "fl:bodplain along <br />the lower mainstem of the Colorado Rive~ must, not be allowed to <br />interfere with the primary purposes and/li!n{~hded operations of <br />the Colorado River reservoirs; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the State of Colorado has a major interest in the <br />operation of the Colorado River reservoirs; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, representatives of the governors of the seven <br />Colorado River Basin states have endorsed H.R. .1246 and will <br />present a statement on the bill in hearings before the Water and <br />Power Subconuni ttee, Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs, <br />U.S. House of Representatives. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Colorado Water <br />Conservation Board in regular session assembled in Denver, <br />Colorado, this 3rd day of May, 1985, that it does hereby endorse <br />and urge the prompt enactment of H.R. 1246, with the technical <br />amendments to sections 5 and 8 of the bill being proposed by the <br />representatives of the governors of the seven Colorado River <br />Basin states. <br /> <br />313 <br />res/aai <br /> <br />--' <br />
