.

<,

the irrigation requirement.

On Drawing SLv-48 are indicated the April,May, and June
water supply for each of the years 1890 to 1938, inclu-
sive, and the present irrigation demand upon tw.t water
supply for those three months. The mean water supply
for the three months for the 49-year period was 411,000
acre-feet. The demand upon that water supply is 322,500
acre-feet. It may be noted from the drawing that during
34 years of the 49-year period the water supply for the
months of April, May, and June was in .excess of the as-
sumed demand.

,

The situation is much different with respect to the
months of July and August. On Drawing SLv-49 is indi-
cated the water supply for those two months for each of
the years 1890 to 1938, inclusive, together with the ir-
rigation demand upon that water supply. It may be noted
that the mean water supply for the 49-year period for the
combined months of July and August was 143,100 acre-feet.
The net irrigation demand on the water supply at Del Norte
for those two months is 262,000 acre-feet. This indicates
a mean annual late season deficiency in water supply of
119,000 acre-feet. In only one year, 1907. did the run-
off of July and August exceed the present demand.

Summarizing: Sufficient water passes Del Norte, if pro-
perly regulated by reservoirs, to take care of the re-
~Jirement of 670,000 acre-feet between Del Norte and
Alamo sa. Regulation means the capture of surplus \mter
during the period of high run-off and during the wintor
season, and the carrying over of this water to be released
to take care of the demand during the periods of water de-
ficiency. It me~ns also the capture of surplus water dur-
ing the months of April, May, und June, to be released to
supply deficiencies during the months of July and August.

Adequacy of Proposed Project

A

A reservoir at Wagon ~fueel Gap, with a capacity of one
million acre-feet, will regulate the supply in such a
way as to take care of the 670,000 acre-foot require-
ment for all years for such a period as 1890 to 1938,ex-
cept the years 1896, 1900, 1901, 1902, and 1904, ?-Ild the
shortages in those years would be nnterially reduced.

i.

6

1776
