If this push is successful. Colorado <br />may gain 1.2 million acres of additional <br />wilderness. an area nearly five times the <br />size of Rocky Mountain Hational Park. <br />lawmakers have failed to move on the <br />Colorado wilderness issue for the past <br />six sessions of Congress. eEe has had a <br /> <br />Photo by Kirk Koepsel <br />Forest Service Wilderness proposal await- <br />ing consideration since 1983. That same <br />year, a Colorado Wilderness Bill, based on <br />the Coalition's proposal. was introduced <br />by then-Senator Hart. <br />During the 1984 session a compromise <br />bill protecting 700.000 acres almost <br />passed. but fell apart due to disputes <br />about federal reserve water rights for <br />wilderness areas.
