COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD
823 State Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203

November, 1977

HUDSON PROJECT

I NTRODUCTI ON

The Town of Hudson is located in Weld County about 27 miles
southeast of Greeley. It was incorporated in 1914 and has all the
powers vested to municipalities by state statutes. Irrigated agri-
culture is the predominant industry of the area, but there is consider-
able urbanization taking place in Weld County and Hudson's proximity to
Interstate 76 and the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad makes it
a desirable location for new residential and industrial growth.
Oil and gas production and coal production have been increasing in
Weld County at a moderate rate in recent years and this in turn has
caused varying degrees of municipal water shortages to occur due to the
influx of people who provide the labor force and services for these
industries. It is anticipated that this trend will probably continue
in the future.

PROBLEM

The quality of the water currently supplied to the residents of
Hudson does not comply with the minimum state standards for potable
water systems for total dissolved solids, sulfates and nitrates. This

supply is from two shallow wells located approximately one mile from

town and treatment facilities in addition to the current chlorination

at the well heads is needed to produce safe water ~ The quantity of water

from the existing wells is adequate for the immediate future.

In addition to the problem of quality in the water system, the town

a'404
:1' .
i '

'(
