The DSS will include a "tDDl bDx"
(mDdels subsystem) Df accepted models which will be determined in consultatiDn with an
Advisory Committee. These models may include existing mDdels, or new generation
developed models, depending on the needs Df the water users and administrators.

The architecture and functional specifications of the DSS will be developed in close
cooperation with the Advisory and Technical Committees in conjunction with the
Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Automated Data Processing (ADP) section. It is
anticipated that Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology will be used to satisfy
many of the DSS requirements. The particular GIS to be used and its implementation will
be cDordinated with the DNR GIS strategic direction to be finalized in August, 1992.

It is expected that the propDsed DSS will have heavy and frequent use since it is an
information system as well as a mDdeling environment. The system hardware and software
will be universal and include both local and wide area network access to allow the greatest
sharing of computational power and data storage.
