COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD
823 State Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver. Colorado 80203

November. 1977

BENNETT PROJECT

INTRODUCTION

The town of Bennett is located in the south-central part of

Adams County, approximately 31 miles east of metropolitan Denver.

From its incorporation in 1930 until 1960, Bennett remained a

\ small rural community. Since 1960. the population has increased

approximately 220 percent and is expected to triple between 1977

and 1990, to a total of about 2,500.

The rapid population growth in recent years has placed an

excessive demand on the town's municipal water system. Constructed

in the early 1930's, the present system consists of one 55,000

gallon storage tank, one l55.000 gallon underground storage tank,

four operable water supply wells, and water distribution pipelines,

ranging in size from 1 inch to 6 inches in diameter. The present

water supply for Bennett, as derived from wells in the valley

alluvium, is of good quality and complies with the Colorado State

Standards for Public Drinking Water Supplies.

PROBLEM

Water use records reveal a very low quantity for average daily

consumption, with the existing supply facilities operating near

2422
