<br />0002H <br /> <br />I) <br /> <br />ELEMENT TASK A-1 ,1: CROP BUDGET REVIEW AND <br />LAND CLASSIFICATION AND USE PATTERN ASSESSMENTS <br /> <br />A, Description of SUD-task <br /> <br />The initial step will De to review the validity and usefulness of Dudgets <br />for individual crop and livestock enterprises avai1aD1e for the study area, <br />These budgets will provide the basis for developing specific activities in <br />the linear programming models in the main analysis, The number and type of <br />budgets required will depend on the number of farm types (according to size, <br />soils and/or enterprise combinations), as well as on the specifications of <br />the 1 inear programming models (see Task A-1,6 De10w), <br />The second part of this task will require compilation of data on land <br />use and soil classifications in the study area, Separate budgets and L,P. <br />models may be appropriate for different soil types, <br /> <br />B, Data Requirements and Availabil ity <br />1. Crop Budgets <br />The study plan contemplates adopting the Oklahoma State University <br />Crop and Livestock Budget Generator format (Walker and K1etke, 1972) (per <br />memo from Wi1 kinson/ADL March 16, 1979). <br />The Oklahoma format has been adopted by the U,S. Department of Agriculture <br />into a system of budgets app1 icab1e for c1 imatic/soi1 resource regions <br />nationwide, This system is called the Firm Enterprise Data System (FEDS), <br />Budgets representing corn, wheat and livestock enterprises are available for <br />the Colorado studyarea, <br />
