OOG336

The ResIdent Power and Reservoir System Model (PRSYM)

Language SpecificatiOn

A widely used programming language that supports the object-oriented modeling approach is
C++. PRSYM software should primarily be implemented in this language. It should be
possible, however, to interface with commercially available linear and nonlinear
programming packages.

Computer Platfonn

The DSS is currently being designed to operate ~a UNIX-b1fsM operating system. The
modeling environment, therefore, must function within the same frazi1ewark.

User-Interface

CreatiOn and ModificatiOn of the River/Reservoir System Model

The interface shall provide the user with the capability to easily create (or modify) and
graphically express a reservoir system network. The network will include the data,
operational policies, and selection of the functionality of the objects. Once a model is
created or modified, it can be saved as a distinct model in the database.

Object Manipulation

The interface must provide the user with the ability to manipulate the objects directly. This
includes viewing or modifying the data of objects, as well as adding, deleting, or changing
the relationship among the objects.

Output Selection and Viewing

The interface shall provide the utilities for the user to select the output variables of interest
and to view that output in tabular or graphic form as specified (see also Analysis Tools).

~ of Data Display

The data display/edit utility must support the display of data (including constraints) and
output in specified aggregates. For example, it should be possible to view/edit all power
plant data for the system or a specified group of projects, to modify a constraint at a group
of proiects. or to plot dam releases at specified reservoirs. -

Display and Use of Time Series Data

Time series data (input and output) should be displayed with the appropriate time variable,
depending on the time step of the data. The interface must support the flexible selection of
the starting time of simulation, independent of the initial time of any object's time series

3-14

--
