A salt removal fee of about $81 per ton (January 1988 <br />price level) has been negotiated. <br /> <br />Status of the Proposal <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />The Glenwood Springs' Planning and Zoning Commission has formally denied re-zoning <br />a proposed 1-70 at Devereux Road site from commercial to industrial. Public reaction <br />to the proposal indicated that a majority of the citizens of Glenwood Springs felt the site <br />initially chosen by the Company was not a compatible land use. Concerns about <br />atmospheric emissions, noise and aesthetics were prevalent. However, many citizens <br />expressed the opinion that the proposal has merit and would be acceptable at a site <br />outside commercial and residential areas. <br /> <br />The Company representatives are currently considering alternate sites in less developed <br />and more acceptable areas outside the city limits. When a new site is selected, <br />Reclamation will prepare NEPA document(s) using data supplied by the Company to <br />analyze the associated environmental and economic effects, and decide if Reclamation's <br />participation in the project is justified. <br /> <br />5 <br />
