002133

,
I
r

2.1.6 Consolidated and Pace Ditch Headgates

Concern:

The cutting of the south bank at the Consolidated and
Pace Ditch headgates would result in flooding once again toward
the City of Monte vista.

Findings:

A strip of land approximately 30 feet wide by 200 feet
long on the south bank downstream of the diversion structure
for the Consolidated Ditch was eroded during the flood. This
erosion has since progressed to take in a segment of the Pace
Ditch which diverts immediately downstream of the Consolidated
Ditch. The river upstream of the Consolidated Ditch diversion
structure is believed by the ditch owners to be following a new
meander path.

t
.

Several remedial options have been proposed:

1)

protect the bank as is with
excavate a new course for the
same point of diversion,

fill and riprap and
Pace Ditch using the

2) Re-establish the lost embankment with riprap to its
old position and re-excavate the Pace Ditch where it
was,

3 )

Protect the bank as
point of diversion
Consolidated Ditch
deliver water to the

is and establish an alternate
for the Pace Ditch in the
and construct a lateral to
Pace Ditch, and

4) Protect the bank as is and move the point of
diversion for the Pace and Consolidated ditches
upstream approximately 0.5 mile to the headgate of
the Monte Vista Canal and construct laterals to feed
these ditches.

Ground surveys would be necessary to determine if the
last two options are physically feasible.

Cost Estimates:

option 1 - $ 30,000
Option 2 - $ 50,000
Option 3 - $ 25,000
Option 4 - $200,000

45
