<br />.' <br /> <br /><.001129 <br /> <br />preserving sections of other selected rivers in their free- <br /> <br />flowing condition for the benefit and enjoyment of present and <br /> <br />future generations of Americans. <br /> <br />The three classes of river areas described in Section 2(Q) of <br /> <br />the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act are as follows: <br /> <br />(1) Wild river areas--Those rivers or sections of <br />rivers that are free of impoundments and <br />generally inaccessible except by trail, with <br />watersheds or shorelines essentially primitive <br />and waters unpolluted. These represent <br />vestiges of primitive America. <br /> <br />(2) <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />Scenic river areas--Those rivers or sections of <br />rivers that are free of impoundments, with shore- <br />lines or watersheds still largely primitive and <br />shorelines largely undeveloped, but accessible in <br />places by roads. <br /> <br />,. <br />" <br />~ <br />II <br /> <br />(3) <br /> <br />Recreational river areas--Those rivers or sections <br />of rivers that are readily accessible by road or <br />railroad, that may have some development along <br />their shorelines, and that may have undergone some <br />impoundment or diversion in the past. <br /> <br />! <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Section 5(a) of Public Law 90-542 did not designate any Colorado <br /> <br />rivers for potential addition to the National Wild and Scenic <br /> <br />Rivers System; and, therefore, no studies were required under <br /> <br />Section 5(b) which call for expeditious study of each river <br /> <br />named in Subsection (a) in order to determine whether it should <br /> <br />be included in the national system. <br /> <br />Section 5(d) of Public Law 90-542 directed the Secretaries of <br /> <br />Interior and Agriculture to make specific studies and investi~ <br /> <br />gat ions to determine which additional river areas within the <br /> <br />United States should be evaluated--in all planning for the use <br /> <br />2 <br />
