Also, it is most important that reliable recrea- <br /> <br />tion use data is available for the comparable project or prop-ram <br /> <br />including information on the origin and activity involvement of the <br /> <br />recreationists. <br /> <br />Estimates of initial recreation use at the project or program area <br /> <br />are projected to 'future years which are selected preferably in 10- <br /> <br />year intervals, In formulating projections of recreation use, the <br /> <br />following are among the factors frequently considered: population <br /> <br />projections, estimated per capita participation in specific recrea- <br /> <br />tional activities, relationships between resident and nonresident <br /> <br />use, potential recreational opportunities provided by the project <br /> <br />or program (sometimes limited by the carrying capacity of the <br /> <br />resources involved), and alternative recreation opportunities, <br /> <br />Factors affecting the choice of a per capita participation rate <br /> <br />include: the number and distribution of the population in the <br /> <br />project or program area; the socio-economic characteristics of the <br /> <br />population .including disposable income, occupation, education, age, <br /> <br />and mobility; and the population's leisure time and recreational <br /> <br />habits, as indicated by trends in hunting and fishing license sales, <br /> <br />sales of recrestional equipment, and trends in total recreation <br /> <br />demand. <br /> <br />3-15 <br />
