The geographical <br /> <br />relationships are shown on the Vicinity Map, Figure 2.1. <br /> <br />The Ute Mountain Ute Indian Reservation is located adjacent to and <br /> <br />west of the Southern Ute Reservation. The state boundaries between <br /> <br />Colorado-Utah and Colorado-New Mexico form the western and southern <br /> <br />boundaries, respectively. The northern boundary follows an <br /> <br />irregular path around Sleeping Ute Mountain south of the City of <br />Cortez extending eastward towards Mesa Verde National Monument which <br />is located near the northeast corner of the reservation. The <br /> <br />eastern reservation boundary forms the western boundary of the <br /> <br />Southern Ute Indian Reservation and is located approximately 40 <br />miles east of the Colorado-Utah state line. Towac, located about 16 <br /> <br />miles southwest of Cortez, is the site of Ute Mountain Ute tribal <br /> <br />headquarters and facilities. The total area of the Ute Mountain Ute <br /> <br />Indian Reservation encompassed by the exterior reservation boundary <br />is about 415,000 acres. <br /> <br />The Southern Ute Indian Reservation is located adjacent to and east <br />of the Ute Mountain Ute Indian Reservation.
