<br />OOllvtsG <br /> <br />Larimer, Weld, Boulder, Gilpin, Clear Creek, Adams, Jeffer- <br />son, Denver, Arapahoe, Douglas, Teller, El Paso, and Pue- <br />blo Counties and the Canon City area of Fremont County. <br /> <br />For the past seven years, according to the Division <br />of Commerce and Development's figures, nearly 90 percent <br />of the jobs created by new industries moving to Colorado <br />have been located in the 14 Front Range counties. Simi- <br />larly, new employment opportunities through expansion of <br />existing industries reveals that 90 percent of the indus- <br />trial growth is occurring along the Front Range. Of the <br />37,832 new jobs reported by the division, 33,919 have been <br />located in the Front Range counties. For a yearly break- <br />down, see Tables I through III. <br /> <br />In November of 1969, the Governor directed the Di- <br />vision of Commerce and Development to redirect its activ- <br />ities for industrial promotion to areas outside of the <br />rapidly growing Denver metropolis. The General Assembly <br />also ~qopted the following language during the 1972 Ses- <br />sion:!! <br /> <br />3-18-2. PurDose. It is the purpose of <br />this division to plan and promote the eco- <br />nomic development of the state and particu- <br />larly those rural and lesser populated areas <br />of the state which desire to encourage such <br />development as well as neighborhoods with <br />chronic unemployment; to stimulate the growth <br />and prosperity of commerce, agriculture, in- <br />dustry, labor, and the professions within <br />such areas of the state; to advertise and <br />publicize the state of Colorado; and to co- <br />ordinate the efforts of private and govern- <br />mental agencies engaged in similar activities <br />within the state. <br /> <br />3-18-3.
