'" ~/'~} I.;

South Platte Water Rights Management System

voir's shorelines was chosen to represent the stream path. This approach preserves
topology but gives a distorted length to the stream system. One remedy to this situation
would be to digitize chords across reservoirs to provide a more realistic travel path for
water flow. In the wider stretches of the river where the DLG digital representation was a
double line (primanly the lower reach of the main stem), one of the banks was chosen to
represent the river.

Attributes The streams layer contains attributes generated and used by Arcllnfo:

FNODE#
TNODE#
LPOLY#
RPOLY#
LENGTH#
PH4_NETWORK#
PH4_NETWORK-ID

In addition, it contains an additional attribute:

REACH-ID

Unique value used to access laglloss information.

This attribute is used to reference the relationallaglloss data to the stream network. Many
contiguous arcs in the ArclInfo coverage may have the same REACH_ID indicating that
SPWRMS considers these arcs to comprise a single reach. A single entry in the
lag_loss.defaults table would be present to describe the physical characteristics of this
group of arcs.

Aqueducts and Ditches/Canals Layers

These linear layers contain an lines that were attributed as aqueducts, ditches, and canals
in the DLG files obtained from ESIC. Within the SPWRMS application, these layers are
for display purposes only; they are not accessed by the application for modelling.

Development These display layers were generated directly from the composite Arcllnfo coverages that
were mosaic-ed from DLG files. All arcs containing relevant coded attributes were
selected and put into the appropriate layer.

Attributes These layers contain only the attributes generated and used by Arcllnfo for describing and
manipulating linear data.

Reservoirs layer

The reservoirs linear layer contains shorelines of major on-stream reservoirs as well as
major reservoirs connected to the stream network by ditches. Reservoirs that have no
control structure at the outlet are not included in this layer. The reservoirs layer, like the
aqueducts and ditches/canals layers. is simply for graphical display, not modelling.

Development The reservoirs layer was extracted from the composite Arcllnfo coverage by selecting
shorelines and placing them into a separate layer. Reservoirs that fell off-stream or contain
no outflow structure were deleted. Later, additions were made to replace specific reser-

16 Database Manual
