001826

.

project as now devised, unless Lake Brennan is built up to hold more

water than is desired by the town of Orested Butte. In this latter case

some changes from the stipulation of March 9, 1935, will be needed.

Other Uses for Leke Brennan

During survey of the Leke Brennan site it seemed probable that

a capacity of more than 1,000 acre-feet could be economically developed,

and that water for a larger reservoir was available. Studies were there-

fore made of possiblo uses for such additional storage, in the following

ways:

1. Additional supply for the town of Crested Butts;

Addi tional supply will probably not be needed. Li tUe growth
can be anticipated and the building of the REA electric plant
should reduce consumption materially,

.

2. Supplemental irrigation supply on Slate Creek above East River;

About 2,000 acres of hay meadows and 1,000 acres of arable
land above the junction of Slate Creek with East River might
get supplemental water from such enlargement, if the addition-
al water were released down Coal Creek into Slate Creek. The
owners of these lends would probably not be willing to pay the
cost of such storage,

3. Supplemental irrigation supply on East River below Slate Creek;

About 5,200 acres of hay meadows along this stretch of East
River seem to have sufficient water even in yea:t"s like 1940,

4. Supplemental irrigation supply on Ohio Creek;

During 1939 and 1940 there was a very decided shortage of
water on Ohio Creek lands, for Ilhich water stored at Leke
Brennan might be a sUppl,lI1lOntal supply I

5. Vlater supply for Antelope Valley;

This valley, described in more detail later, would need a
very large supply for 2,000 acres of land,

.

6. Supplemental irrigation supply for North Fork lands;

While the Peonia project as proposed should fully supply all
North Fork lands reached by it, the value of Lake Brennan
for later development should be considered.

-19-
