OQ1803

.

.

If the dam is built to store 3.000 acre-feet the cost, as esti-
mnted. would be $SO ,685. of which one-third, or $26,895. would properly be
chargeable to the to~n of Crested Butte and $53.790 to the project for
supplying supplemental water to Ohio Creek lands. The cost of the Coal
Creek ditch to Ohio Pass would be $31,645, making the total cost of the
Ohio Creek development $85.435, or $42.7?per acre-foot of total storage
available for Ohio Creek lands.
Due to large return flow on this project, it is estimated that
rediversion cf 70% n1'ter all losses should be possible. If 3,400 acre-
faet were thus supplied to Ohio Creek lands the cost per acre-foot per
year, during a period of 40 years, without interest, ~~uld be 63 cents
per acre-foot. Cost per acre for Ohio Creek lands would depend upon the
sort of plan worked out ~or financing the project and the area to be sup-
plied under the plan, but it is obvious that if financed under the terms
of Reclamation law allowing repayment in 40 years without interest, the
yearly cost per acre-foot. or per acre. would be moderate.
Conclusions
1. In the absence of any definite records of use by the town of
Crested Butte, it is estimated that a total storage of 1.000 acre-feet.
or an increase in stored water of 615 acre-feet at Lake Brennan should be
adequate for the present and prospectivo uses of the town for domestic
supply.
2. Studies of water supply based on the records available, indicate
that from the natur!'..l area draining into Lake Brennan an avere.ee yield of
storable water in excess of 4,000 acre-feet per annum would be certain.
Since this drainage area can be increased to one and one-half times the

.

.

-h-
