The South Plaue RJyer <br />originates in the mou:ntains of central Colorado and OOW5 about 450 miles northeast across the Great Plains <br />to the confluence with the North Platte River at North Platte, Nebraska. The basin encompasses 19,020 <br />square miles \\ithin Colorado, "ith elevations ranging from 3.500 feet in JuJesburg at the stale line to 14,000 <br />feet in the headwaters area. Climate in the basin is characterized by "ide temperature ranges and irregular <br />seasonal and annual precipitation.
