RECOMMENDATION The Secretary of the Interior has delegated the responsibilities for river operation and maintenance and the responsibilities of the Secretary with respect to the Floodway Act to the Bureau of Reclamation. Accordingly, it is recommended that the Bureau of Reclamation be responsible for the five-year reviews of the Floodway provided for in Section 5 of the Act 'and that the first five-year period not commence until the Colorado River Floodway maps have been filed with the Congress. It is recommended further that the state agencies responsible for review of Colorado River operations in the three states within which the Floodway is located be provided copies of supporting technical study documents and computations for the Floodway boundary determinations and that these agencies serve as the central depository for Floodway documentation for each state. These agencies are the Arizona Department of Water Resources, the Colorado River Board of California, and the Colorado River Commission of Nevada. The Lower Colorado Region, Bureau of Reclamation, would serve as the principal and central federal depository for Floodway documentation. To facilitate the maintenance, use, and distribution of this dat~, the Bureau of Reclamation shall prepare an appropriate index of the study documents, technical data, maps, and other relevant information. The index shall be updated when information is added or changed. It is further recommended that each of the entities represented on the Colorado River Floodway Task Force be provided with a copy of this index and that data be supplied upon request. V-7
