Federal funds in the amount of $225,000 vere appro- <br />priated in FY 1971 and placed in budgetary reserve. These funds <br />vt:!re released for use in FY 1972. Advance planning studies viII <br />be curtailed at the end of FY 1973 until funds are made available. <br />The FY 1974 program of $100,000 is based on carryover funds from <br />FY 1973 and is to be used to dete~ the effect of the project <br />on the salinity of the Colorado River and to esticate the cost <br />for facilities to offset salinity errects of the project. <br /> <br />Feasibility and advance planning costs to June 30, 1972 amount to <br />$1.314.228, <br /> <br />Present advance planning activities include a comprehensive re- <br />evaluation of the plan as'formulated in the authorizing report. <br />A reassessment of the areals needs is also being made. Current <br />plan formulation studies include a sealed-dovn development or <br />both irrigation and municipal and industrial water supplies. <br />Attempts are bei~ made to reassess vater requirements for the <br />cOJ:'Jl:Unities of Durango, Az.t~c, and Fanllington. Also not firm is <br />vater deliveries planned for_ Indian resource developments. <br /> <br />}~jor minerial di~coveries made at Bovardsville Dam and Reservoir, <br />since the feasibility report ~as issued, are signi~icant as re- <br />ported by the Burea.u of lo!ines. Alternative sites are being <br />considered. AI ternati ve plans of sites bet~een 5il veTton and <br />Durango, are being considered because of the necessity of re- <br />locating a scenic railroad that has been designated a Historical <br />MonUlllent. <br /> <br />The La Plata and Southilestern distrlcts have joined in a c!U:lpaign <br />to organize a new conservancy distr~ct coverir~ a1l of La Plata <br />County, Colorado. The present La Pl.at.e. Water ConservancJo~ District <br />vill be dissolved after the new district is organized.
