The estimated construction cost of $258.745,000. in relation to
the 1,100.000 acres of new land to be irrigated in the Upper Bas-
in. is equivalent to $216 pel' acre. Based on the total area to
be benefited. including lands now irrigated to receive supple-
mental supplies. the construction cost averages 0152 per acre.
In Colorado the per acre costs are slightly above average, amount-
ing to $228 per acre of new lend. and 0162 per acre benefited.
Hhile some areas suited to the production of valuable specialty
crops could no doubt justify such expenditures. the major share
of the potential new and benefited acreages will be devoted to
general farm crops (feed and forage) incident to livestock opera-
tions in Western Colorado. For general irrigation farming there
is a question rego, rding the desirability and feasibility of ex-
penditures of such magnitude. which cannot be answered until de-
tailed reports by individual projects are completed and avail-
able for consideration and cQllparison.

8. Upper Basin-Potential Elcport Diversions.

The quantities of water to be diverted from headwater tributaries
of the Colorado River System for use in other valleys of the Upper Basin
States. as described in the Report. are based on the average year of a
drouth cycle such as 1931-1940, and are sUlllllarized by divisions and States
in the following table.

,

(Units Acre Feet)
Division Hyoming Colorado utah N.
