The General Land Office during the summer of <br />1941 ree8t~bli8hed land li~e8 and monumented corners in the reservoir area. <br />Using information furnished by the General Land Office following completion <br />of their retracement survey. ownerElhip maps were prepared of the reservoir <br />area. <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />An appraisal board began field work in the reservoir area November 5, <br />1941. The appraisals included the determination of ~alvage values of <br />improver:lents and the annual rente.1 value of each property. Land A.cquisiti.,t:. <br />entailed two specialized problems, (a) values claimed for mineral deposits <br />(Bentonite) and mill tailings in the vicinity of Creede, C~loredo. and (b) <br />values cle.imed for springfl and damages to private cOJ:Jmf"rcial fish hatcheries <br />end the rel?cntion of the Creede FederPl Fish Hatchery. For this reason <br />requests were directed to the General Land Office and to the Flab and Wild- <br />life Service for appraisals of the mineral deposits and of the fisheri~s. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Regional General Land Office, Salt Lake City, Ute.h. completed field <br />investigations of mineral ~eposit8 and submitted their report in September <br />1943. The Regional Fish and WildUfe Service, Albuqu'3!'li.Ue. New Mexico, com- <br />pleted field investigations of commercial hatcheries and their report was <br />received in August 1944. <br /> <br />Concurrently with the above work stream ge.gine. flood damage surveys, <br />and geologic exploration surveys and investigations yere carried out. <br /> <br />Hydrological studies to dete~i~e the storable flov at the ~agon Wheel <br />Gap DPm site ~ere made early in 1945. B1gh,~y relocations and drilling at <br />the damsite were also mbde. A preliminary irrigated area and land use survey <br />was ~ade to dete~lne the amour.t of irrigated lands, crop distribution. and <br />irrigation practices for 340.000 acres in Al~ofla.
