<br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />benefits and support to reach mutually agreed- <br />upon goals. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />· WILDLIFE - Perpetuate native animal <br />life as part of the natural ecosystem in <br />consultation with federal and state agencies. <br /> <br />Conditions to be attained: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I) Endangered and threatened species are protected <br />and the Service has accomplished its role in <br />recovery of threatened and endangered species <br />found at the monument. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />2) Habitat fragmentation has been minimized. <br /> <br />3) Native Colorado River fish have been restored <br />and/or are delisted. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />4) The world-class trout fishery is maintained. <br /> <br />5) Zoological inventories have been completed and <br />species are monitored to the point that changes <br />in population trends or characteristics can be <br />identified and/or managed. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />· VISITOR USE - Develop a strategy to <br />determine the appropriate levels of visitor <br />use and experience and alternative strategies <br />for maintaining the diversity of quality visitor <br />experiences consistent with Black Canyon of <br />the Gunnison NM's purposes and <br />significance. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Conditions to be attained: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I) A strategy has been developed with public input <br />to guide the park in ensuring a quality visitor <br />experience, resource preservation, and <br />development consistent with the noncrowded <br />and pristine nature of the park and maintaining <br />the ability of visitors to have a high-risk <br />adventure experience in the wilderness. <br /> <br />2) Wilderness areas are properly monitored for <br />resources, impacts, and usage. <br /> <br />3) A strategy to determine and establish a carrying <br />capacity that protects resources and provides a <br />range of experiences has been developed. <br /> <br />4) Recreational uses have been evaluated and are <br />permitted when such use is otherwise <br />compatible with park and NPS management <br />objectives and regulations. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />· COMMERCIAL SERVICES - Identify <br />the optimum level of commercial services to <br />be provided and their complementary role in <br />accomplishment ofthe park mission. <br />Commercial services include anything <br />offered to the public or private individuals in <br />which park resources are used and that <br />results in compensation of any kind to an <br />individual, organization, or corporation. <br />Compensation may be "for profit" or <br />"nonprofit" under local, state, or federal law. <br /> <br />Conditions to be attained: <br /> <br />I) A commercial services plan has been completed <br />to provide long~term strategic guidance for <br />management of commercial services. <br /> <br />2) Consistent with the Concessions Policy Act of <br />1965, the commercial services plan evaluates, <br />through the planning process, those services that <br />are necessary and appropriate for the present <br />and future visitors to each park. <br /> <br />3) The commercial services plan identifies: <br /> <br />. commercial services and facilities that <br />are necessary and appropriate <br /> <br />. levels of services and facilities essential <br />to serve visitors <br /> <br />. types of facilities necessary to support <br />commercial services <br /> <br />. appropriate areas for facilities that <br />serve visitors <br /> <br />4) The type of commercial facilities and services <br />that would complement quality and diverse <br />visitor experiences and resource conservation <br />have been dete'rmined. <br /> <br />· FACILITIES - Provide facilities and <br />services that are attractive, safe, accessible, <br />and of high-quality design, adhering to a <br />common architectural theme.
