In order to simplify
the sediment procedure, the annual sediment volume is constant from
year to year, rather than being a function of inflow.

Si nce a si gnifi cant amount of sediment has depositedi n these reser-
voirs since their closure, the area-capacity coefficients used by the
CRSM have been modified (1984) to reflect this accumulation. During
a model simulation, these area-capacity coefficients are changed
every month to reflect the amount of sediment accumulation shown in
the above table. Only the portion of sediment that accumulates in
live capacity is used in updating the area-capacity coefficients.
The volume that accumulates in live capacity is determined according
to a Type II (Flood plain-Foothill) sediment distribution as defined
in "Distribution of Sediment in Large Reservoirs," by Borland and
Miller. Other mOdeling parameters like live and active capacity,
current contents, and dead storage volume are also updated monthly to
account for the sediment deposition.

l,

,
I
I
;
I'
1
I,

1
I.
i
i

53
