OOHGI",

6.

Colorado River Simulation Model - CRSM

6.1 General

The main part of the CRSS is the CRSM. A general flowchart of the model
and a discussion is given in section 6.4. A detailed flowchart of the
model is presented in section 6.5. ~iscussions on specific parts of the
model and underlying assumptions are presented throughout sections 7, 8,
9, 10, and 11. The input files, output files, and output program used
in conjunction with the model are discussed below.

6.2 CRSM I~ut Data
There are four computer fil es that are input to the CRSM (see fi g. 3.1):

CRSM control file
Demand input data file
Hydrology input data file
TAPEOIT (output program) control fil e

The CRSM control file contains the data that describe the system charac-
teristics, constraints, and initial conditions. These data include
reach configuration; identification of inflow points and delivery
points; reservoir information like area-capacity curves, maximum and
minimum contents, evaporation rates, bank storage rates, maximum and
minimum releases, target storage levels, and initial contents; power-
plant information like generator ratings, efficiency, maximum and mini-
mum power head, tailwater curves, discharge curves, and power factor;
monthly distribution of annual salt pickup; and data for making deci-
sions involving runoff forecasts, shortage conditions, and surplus con-
dit.i ons.-- .Thi s. Jil e a 1 sOui nc 1 udes run .cont.ro 1 info rmat ion like length of
run, starting year of hydrology, operating straiegles- Eo-lie-use(r~ -if- - -
any, and titles. All the data found in the CRSM control file are
descri bed in the CRSM User's Manual.

~
I
~

i
J
v---

The demand input data file, which is merged with the CRSM control file
before input to the model, contains the demand data for each delivery
point in the system. These data include demand schedules, consumptive
use, and return flow i nformat ion. These data are di scussed in detail in
section 4: Demand Data.

The hydrology input data file contains the monthly flow and salt values
for each inflow point, and monthly total inflows for reaches where
spring runoff is to be predicted. This data is discussed in detail in
section 5: Hydrology Data.

The TAPEDIT control file handles the data that are transferred from the
CRSM to the TAPEDIT output program. The fi rst part of the TAPEOIT
control file is used by the CRSM and specifies what data should be
transferred from the CRSM. This information includes the types of out-
put desired, the locations of the points in the basin schematic where

25
