These studi es are: <br /> <br />1. Local Support and Issue Identification <br /> <br />- State and local support and interest groups have been identified in <br />each region along with significant pOlitical and land use issues <br />re 1 ati ng to s peci fi c ri vel' areas. <br /> <br />What is the value of this information? <br /> <br />This information, although highly variable, can be used to: <br /> <br />- set priorities <br /> <br />- respond to support <br /> <br />- provide Congressional assistance <br /> <br />- identify conservation opportunities at all levels of government <br /> <br />2. Viewpoints on the Impacts of National Wild and Scenic ,River Designation <br /> <br />- Through interviews, the perspectives of a variety of citizens, and <br />local, state and federal officials was gathered to begin to determine <br />what the physical, social and economic impacts of designation are <br />on a river area. <br /> <br />What is the value of this information? <br /> <br />The information gathered here, although general has begun to provide answers <br />to many of the questions frequently asked by citizens and state and local <br />governments. These perspecti ves a 11 ow for a more accurate assessment of <br />the impact of river conservation strategies. <br /> <br />NEXT PHASE OF THE SYSTEM STUDY <br /> <br />What is the next phase of the System Study? <br /> <br />The eastern regional offices of HCRS have recently begun the second portion <br />of the System Study - the Recreation Rivers phase. The goal of the Rec- <br />reation Rivers phase is to identify rivers or river segments - including <br />urban waterways - which are of recreational and cultural significance, and <br />di d not qua 1 i fy under the c riteri a of the Wil d and Sceni c Ri vel's ph ase. <br />In cooperation with State, local and private river interests, a preliminary <br />list of Recreation Rivers will be developed by October 1,' 1979. - <br /> <br />': <br /> <br />, ,6 <br /> <br />-' <br /> <br />
