<br />..",002281 <br /> <br />- To make better use of river information and experts <br /> <br />, <br />- To make river information more us'able and accessible <br /> <br />How were these changes incorporated into the river evaluation process? <br /> <br />A process, termed the "Amenity Evaluation," was developed to evaluate rivers <br />emphasizing the use of existing information and experts to identify: <br /> <br />- Outstanding river values <br /> <br />- Opportuniti es for ri ver conservati'on, now and in the future, at all <br />levels of government and within the private sector. <br /> <br />The "Amenity Evaluation" method was developed for: <br />- Site specific as well as summary river evaluations <br /> <br />Information on a mile-by-mile basis in a descriptive form <br /> <br />- Regional and national perspectives related to determining outstandingly <br />remarkable river values and uniqueness <br /> <br />RIVER CHARACTERISTICS <br /> <br />What rivel' corl"idor features have been studied? <br /> <br />The following categories of information, in varying amounts of detail, have <br />been inventoried and evaluated: <br /> <br />- Descriptive (i.e, flow, length, watershed size, etc.) <br /> <br />Geological - Ecological (i.e. unique features, endangered species, etc.) <br /> <br />- Wilderness (i.e. amount of development within the corridor, within <br />the watershed, etc.) <br /> <br />Scenic (i.e. views, enclosure, spatial experiences, etc.) <br /> <br />- Cultural (i .e. Historic Register Sites, significant cultural land- <br />scapes, trails, etc.) <br /> <br />- Recreation (i.e. public ownership, access, proximity to population <br />centers, fishing potential, etc.) <br /> <br />What is the value of having these kinds of information within this type of <br />format? <br /> <br />The "Amenity Evaluation" provides for: <br />- Mile-by-mile descriptive feature location <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />~~..~._.,.-,.....~....u_..'I.?_"V"".._...." ...._..__~___~.~._.~. _~ ." <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />
