OGlj56

Colorado River Decision Support System

Progress Report for June, 1994

Task 1.07 Physical Characteristics Database Development (Phase lIa)

1.0 Technical progress this period:

Subtask 1: Finalize Data Requirements

L The data requirements that fall under the Physical Characteristics Task have been
identified and the population schedule proceeds as originally planned,

Subtask 3: Populate Database

L Inventoried the State DAMS database that contains reservoir characteristics, These
data fields have been identified to be populated from this source:

. Maximum Storage Capacity

. Normal Storage Capacity

. Normal Surface Area

2, Sources for consumptive use physical characteristics data have been identified and
in some cases are being populated,

3, Attributes of the irrigated acreage coverage have been fully populated into the
CROSS database, This was a much larger effort than anticipated mostly due to the
fact that this was the first State data to be populated, The entire process is
completely documented and available under /crdss/data/div4/irrig,

Subtask 4:Develop Data Access Procedures

L Information and documentation is being compiled, Design has begun on which
data will have a spreadsheet like viewer and/or a spreadsheet editor,

1.1 Meetinl!s and Other Communication:

Weekly Database Team Meetings (Tuesdays, 9:30) - These meetings are used to
discuss the technical progress on each of the subtasks and to coordinate efforts,

Regular attendees - Luis Garcia, Chris Graves, Mario Mejia, Rick Rohlfs, Doug
Greer, Markus Ritsch, and Marc Baldo,

~ Areas of Concern:

2, Effort was necessary for populating the crop data and the irrigated acreage
coverage, Since the State has done no population for the Hydrobase DB yet, they
have been unable to provide data that has been thoroughly QNQC, therefore this
effort included some QNQC for the data,

L Software issues are still not fully resolved, Le, the Informix client-server
connection is down, This has prevented any further investigation into linking
spatial data and their physical characteristics attributes,

U Information Needs:

2, Could wingz or 4GL be used for the form-based interfaces?

2.0 Technical progress planned for the next period (July):
