002431

o Alternative B -- Include all eligible segments of the Los
pinos River and its tributaries of Lake Creek, Flint
Creek. Rincon La Osa. Rincon La Vaca, Snowslide and
Sierra Vandera in the National System.

o Alternative C -- Include all eligible segm, mts of the LOS
pinos River and its eligible tributaries (named above).
except Lake Creek, in the National System. This would
allow the pine River Irrigation District to develop its
water right at Emerald Lake.

The study team recommended Alternative B, which would result
in designation of approximately 54 miles of streams and 17,300
acres of wilderness ,landscape in the river corridor.

Impacts of Designation (from Study Report)

Given that the river is already in a wilderness area and
private land is not involved. and that the river is not suitable
for white-water boating. the only impacts of designation would be
the annual cost for operation, maintenance, and administration,
which was estimated at $7,000, and the opp::lrtunity cost of water
-impoundment at Emerald LaKe and mineral exploration in the river
corridor being foregone. The river would apparently receive no
greater protection than already afforded to it as a component of
the Weminuche wilderness Area.

,

Current Legislation (S. 1084)

S, 1084 would designate the same reaches and classifications
as the study report recommended.

Ibm

-2-
