<br />0J2422 <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD <br />823 State Centennial Building <br />1313 Sherman Street <br />Denver, Colorado 80203 <br /> <br />January 5-6, 1984, Board Meeting <br /> <br />GREEN AND YAMPA RIVERS <br />WILD AND SCENIC RIVER STUDY <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />PUblic Law 93-621 authorized the study of the Green River <br />from Flaming Gorge Dam to the southern boundary of Dinosaur <br />National Monument (Utah and Colorado), and the Yampa River from <br />the eastern boundary of Dinosaur National Monument to the <br />confluence with the Green River (Colorado) for possible .inclusion <br />, in the National Wild and Scenic River System. A joint <br />Federal/State study team was organized to carry out the study. <br /> <br />Eligibility and Classification <br /> <br />The entire study area, consisting of 91 miles of the Green <br />River and 47 miles of the Yampa River were found eligible for <br />inclusion in the National System. Based on physiographic and <br />man-made characteristics, the Green and Yampa Rivers'were divided <br />into four segments for the study. The classification for each <br />segment is as follows: <br /> <br />o Segment A, Green River, from the Forest Service Spillway <br />boat ramp below Flaming Gorge Dam to the Bureau of Land <br />Management boat ramp at Indian Crossing, 15 miles, <br />classified as scenic river area; <br /> <br />o Segment B, Green River, from the Bureau of Land <br />Management boat ramp at Indian Crossing to the Gates of <br />Lodore in Dinosaur National Monument, 32 miles, <br />classified as scenic river area; , <br /> <br />o Segment C, Green River, from the Gates of Lodore to the <br />southern boundary of Dinosaur National Monument, 44 <br />miles, classified as wild river area; <br /> <br />o Segment D, Yampa River, from the eastern boundary of <br />Dinosaur National Monument to the river's confluence <br />with the Green River, 47 miles, classified as wild river <br />area. <br /> <br />See attached map for reach locati~ns. <br /> <br />701 <br />grn/ympa <br />
