<br />4207 <br />Nobody likes the decIsion. <br /> <br />The Indians complaIn that they were rewarded less than half <br />their claImed water rights. <br /> <br />The state and the local water users think they lost In the <br /> <br /> <br />Supreme Court; that the Indians got far too much. <br /> <br />The people of Mancos Valley are alarmed. some may have to. <br />make a 60 percent reduction In the amount of water they are usIng. <br /> <br />Several have announced that they are giv1ng up farming and ieav1ng. <br /> <br />Farm and land prices have been seriously depressed because of <br />the specter of the IndIan claims. <br /> <br />Local citizens have formed a group to oppose a proposed <br />Indian delivery and storage system at the Southern ute Reservation. <br /> <br />Cortez had decided In 1988 not to share its water treatment <br />facllHy with the ute Mountain ute Indians. Water Is still beIng <br />delIvered by truck to homes on the Ute Mountain Ute Indian ReservatIon <br />but now rather expensively in bottles sInce the outbreak of dyssentery <br />a few years before that resulted In serIous illnesses and even deaths <br />in 1990's. <br /> <br />- 2 - <br />
