<br />, . .. <br />'.nOl092 <br /> <br />.~ <br /> <br />, <br />( I <br />.. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />4 <br /> <br />WEATHER REPORT <br /> <br />The weather conditions during the year 1939 were not favorable <br />for crop production, The only wet period' that was general over the p~oject <br />occured between the 12th and 18th of .JUne, Several crops had been irrig- <br />ated previous to this storm, as the spring was very dry, up to the time <br />this storm occurred, <br /> <br />The rain fall for the year 1939 as shown by the records of the <br />Scottsbluff Experimental farm was much below the average for the past <br />ten years. <br /> <br />The ten year annual average (from 1930 to 1939 Inc.) was 11.70 <br />inches,. The rain fall for 1939 was 7.7S inches. There has been only one <br />year with less precipitation during the past ten years, and that was the <br />year 1931 with 7,57 inches of rainfall. <br /> <br />There has been only two years during the past ten year period during <br />which the rainfall equaled ~r exceeded the average annual rainfall for this <br />section, and those were the year 1930 with 20.88 inches and 1938 with 16,56 <br />inches. <br /> <br />There is an accumulated deficiency during the past ten years of 32 <br />inches rainfall, as compared to the pre~iuus ten year period, As for in- <br />stance during the ten'. years of 1920 to 1929 t~e accuaulated rain' fall <br />totaled 149.63 inches, and the averaGe annual rain fall was 14.96. <br /> <br />The total fur the ten year period from 1930 to 1939 inclusive was <br />117,01 inches, ruth an average'annual of 11.70 inches, <br /> <br />The rain fall during the'cropping season of 1939, that is, from <br />April 1st to October 1st, anounted to 5.83 inches. <br /> <br />The records frum the Lake Minatare station for 1939 show 8.10 inches <br />of precipitation for 1939, 5,95 inches 'of which fell during the period from <br />April 1st to Octobel' 1st, <br /> <br />The ten year average annual precipitation was 12.21 inches which is <br />slightly greater than that of the experLlental farm, <br /> <br />There were 34 days throughout the. cropping season during which time <br />some rain fall was recorded at sone point on the project, H,)wever, ea.ch <br />storm was generally very local and covered only a snaIl area. And the re- <br />crorded moisture of each storm was generally little core than a trace, and <br />was therefor9 of no benefit to crops. <br /> <br />There were three local storns of alnost cloud burst proportion, one <br />on June 1st which covered part of the Sunflower :trea, one on ;iugust 18, over <br />the area south of L::.ke Alice and the other on M'-7 31st in the Rca WiU..w area. <br />There was some hail in each of these storms but the dar~aged area was small. <br /> <br />1 <br />
