.

.

.

.(jjJ57G

3.1 Reservoirs

In general, the CRSS method for reservoirs can be implemented as noted above. The
method will also have to account for return flow concentration when calculating the
reservoir salt balance. The method should be able to obtain the return flow
concentration from the return flow object's slot.

Diversion qualities should automatically be assigned the reservoir's quality in the
diversion object method. Therefore, no separate slot is required for diversion water
quality. The total outflow should account for the diversion quantity. The method can
assume that the outflow concentration is the same for all outflow points.

3.2 Reaches/AggReaches

In general, reaches will inherent their quality from the upstream reach or reservoir.
The same will be true for reach elements. Hydrologic inflow points which have user
provided concentration will be flow weighted with the reach's current flow and
concentration to obtain the residual concentration. Reaches will inherent return flow
quality from the return flow source (all salt loading will be done by AggDiversion
methods). Therefore, reaches will make no distinction between return flows and
hydrologic inflows.

Diversions will be handled in 1 of 2 ways by the input DM\. If the user has provided a
quality for the diversion, this value will be used for diversion quality and the reach
inflow quality will be calculated as per the equation 6. Otherwise, the diversion quality
will be set equal to the reach's inflow quality (before any return flows). Having the
input DMI do these chores should be acceptable because all diversions with provided
quality are in upstream reaches and are exports. Then the reach method only has to
calculate the reach's (or reach element) output concencentration. The reach/element
outflow quality will be the flow weighted residual of inflow minus diversions plus return
flows.

Four additional slots will be required to support check station calculations which are
the minimum and maximum allowable salt concentrations and the deviations from
these thresholds. The deviation slots will be time series expression slots calculated
as:

deviation = current concentration - threshold concentration

3.3 AggDiversions

As noted in the previous section, diversions will inherent their quality from the reach.
The concentrating effect of depletions will be calculated with equation 7. Then the
pickup will be applied using equation 8. A slot will be created for return flow pickup.
This method will be applied to the AggDiversion slots if using the "Lumped Structure"
configuration (which all CRSS diversions use). Otherwise, the slot and methods would
be applied to the water user element.
