,It,

001351

..

.

CHAIRMAN STONE: I think all the members of this Committeo would
be interested in the three states making a serious effort to solve this
problem and I trust that that oan be attempted.

GOVERNOR HANNETT: Speaking for New Me:doo alone. I would' like.
the rocord to show that New Mexico. as the next door neighbor of Arizona,
is very happy in the loadership that Arizene. has at this time whioh is
lo.clr:Ulg, tOWl\.t'd_ poe.bofl'11 't10~1e.ttons. I also think that ArizollEt is very
happy in the ohoice of her leadership at this time in river matters.

MR. HEWES; I would like to say that California conours in that
statement also.

CHAIRMAN STONE: I WIl pleased to hear those expressions. That is
a source of great 'satisfaotion to every member of this Committee that
Arizona has token this attitude.' It oert$ly augers well for a' fuller.
and rioher benefit far all of us. It aotmlly helps all of us in getting
the water to help out the entire Basin and these efforts certainly will not go
WIliss. On the part of Arizona I hope that they oan eome te some Slerious
oonsideration of this matter.

Is there any further disoussion on this question?

MR. DAVIS: Mr. Chairman,-I believe that you ware conoerned
about; the Upper Basin states who have been requested"by the Federal Povrer
Commission to register any oomplaint they might have, if any.

CHAIRMAN STONE: I believe that all of the states ware requested
to do that.

MR. DAVIS: That has been deferred for scme timo and from time
to tme and we appreoiate that faot. The reason that I brought this up
on the table before you is to shoW you that our position is noil. to stall
or postpone anything of that kind.

CHAIRMAN STONE: I do not think that anyone thinks you are
attempting to do that.

MR. DAVIS I If thore is an nttoli1pt an objeotion could bG made
to the Federal Power Commission. Further, we are going to meet ycnJ. on
arry ground in tho solution of this problem beeause if' the~ are any valid
objeotions under this Aot by which you are going to be jeopardized we
would 111m to know that. .

GOVERNOR HANNETT: I suggest tha.t that is inf'ormatien for Mr.
Gilos' Committee.

CHAIRMAN STONE: Mr. Giles' Cenmittee and JUdge Shute are going
to get together. After thay have ta.lked this thing ovor' and oome back
this afternoon perhaps we can agree upon that very thing. No doubti, wa
oan oome te some oonolusion.
