This report presents
the results of our field investigation conducted on, October 6, 1992 to October 11, 1992.
The data gathered during our investigations are summarized in Tables 1 and 2, Figures 1
through 4, and Appendixes A, B and C. This study was conducted in accordance with our
proposal No. 92D227P dated June 1992.' __

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Beaver Reservoir is a 11J..foot high earth fill dam located approximately 9 miles southeast
of Paonia, Colorado ,(Figure I). The dam crest is approximately 870 feet long. The
upstream slope is approximately 3:) (horizontal to vertical). The downstream slope is 2: 1
from the crest at.elevation 8111 to elevation 8055, and 3:1 below elevation 8055. The
outlet works consists 'of,a 24-inch diameter steel pipe at the maximum embankment section.
A plan of the dam is ,shown in on Figure 2.

The dam. has been' placed on restricted storage by the Colorado Office of the State Engineer
due to the ,recent discovery of new sinkholes in the reservoir bottom just upstream of the
embankment. The results of this investigation will be used to evaluate remedial alternatives
and develop ,a preliminary remedial design for the preferred alternative which will address
the dam safety issues raised by the Office of the State Engineer. WCC will also develop
a construction.cost.estimate and a fmancial program for the repair work. The results of
these studies will 'be presented in a Feasibility Study report for submittal to the Colorado
Water ConserVation' Board (CWCB).

23067/LEI0 Q2.04-93(4:24pm)/RPT
