The
Contractor mobilized on-site in September of 2002 and completed the work in October of 2002.
During construction of the project the Cedaz Mesa Ditch and Reservoir Company
encountered cost overruns, due to design modifications, construction access difficuities, and
additional work added during the time of construction. Theses addirional costs aze summarized as
follows:
Professiona[ EngineerinQ Services:
Pr* t^ Lhe dev .°.CY:::Ct Cf fii .a: design gls:. f:,, the pject, the edar hiesa iitcn and
Reservoir Company hired the services of Smith Geotechnical, Fort Collins, Colorado to perform
preliminary engineering and soils investigation to rehabilitate the dam. This preliminary work was
conducted a number of years ago, with a significant portion of the prior soils work deemed unusable
by the State Engineer's Office. The State Engineer's concem on the soils investigation was the time
frame that had transpued from the point of collection to the time that the material testing actually
took place. Therefore, given the status of the preliminary engineering work, the Cedar Mesa Ditch
and Reservoir Company hired the services of Knight Peisold, Denver, Colorado to utilized the
information available and to prepaze final design plans to rehabilitate ihe existing reservoir to the
guidelines of the State Engineer's Office.
Added Cost: $28, D00
.
.
•
The final design submitted to the State Engineer's Office for review included the placement
of a vertical chimney drain in the existing dam embanlmient. Based on the recommendation from
the State Engineer's Office during their review process this design alternative was changed to
include a buttress fili, 15-feet wide at a maximum height of 20-feet, placed at the downstream toe of
