.

.

CHAPTER III
LAND

.

Land Classifications and Service Area
All lands served by the project are currently under Irrigation, No new lands will be irrigated
as a result of this rehabilitation project. Soil classification maps for the project service area have
been prepared by the USDA Soil Conservation Service, and maps delineating the soils classifications
have been published in the .Soil Survey of Sedgwick County, Colorado," issued in 1969,

.

The boundaries of the District and the limits of the irrigated areas within the District are
shown on the District Service Area Map, Figure 2,

.

Land Use
During recent years, the lands included within the District boundary have averaged about
19,134 acres, It is estimated that about 98 percent of the total or 18,751 acres, of the land is
irrigated, District water supplies are used exclusively for irrigation of crops. A summary of the
irrigated crops raised in the District are presented in Table 5 for the most recent five years for which
records are available. The data in Table 5 was derived from "Colorado Agricultural Statistics 1990,"
Sedgwick County data, and adjusted to reflect only the irrigated acreage within the District.

.

.

Land OwnershiD
There are approximately 172 property owners within the District boundaries which are
subject to the District assessments and which are eligible to receive irrigation water from District
supplies, A detailed list of the property owners and acreage irrigated are presented in Appendix D,
Total acreage within the District is about 19,134 acres,

.

.

.

7

.
