Lile, P .E. <br />Director, CWCB <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />~~:::s:~I:~s'\L~L <br /> <br /> <br />October 27, 1994 <br /> <br />TO: <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />Purgatoire River Streamflow Lossrrraveltime Study (USGSIPRWCD) <br /> <br />You either attended a meeting in Pueblo on February 10, 1994, or otherwise expressed interest in <br />a proposed study of transit losses on the Purgatoire River in Colorado, This memo is to update you <br />on the status of that study and provide you with some additional background information, I have <br />enclosed the following: <br /> <br />I) CWCB memos dated October 20, 1994; September 13, 1994; and January 11, 1994, <br />2) USGS letter (3/17/94) and Project Proposal (3/14/94) explaining the study, <br /> <br />The study status as of October I, 1994 is as follows: <br /> <br />I) As discussed at the February 10, 1994 meeting, and described in the Project Proposal, the <br />study has been broken into 2 phases: <br />Phase I will utilize existing data and studies, <br />Phase 2, if necessary, will use field tests and measurements, as well as modeling <br />to refine the results of Phase I, <br /> <br />2) The Purgatoire River Water Conservancy District (PRWCD) and the USGS have entered into <br />an annual funding agreement and Phase I of the study has commenced, Startup was a little <br />later than anticipated in the schedule attached to the Project Proposal, and therefore the actual <br />schedule is several months behind the schedule shown there, <br /> <br />3) The USGS has begun the data collection portion of the study, with initial analysis of the data <br />to begin soon. <br /> <br />4) The CWCB is seeking legislative authorization to become a 25% financial participant in the <br />study, and will continue to monitor technical aspects it also, <br />
