P.E. <br />Director, CWCB <br /> <br />ater Conservation Board Members <br /> <br />L <br /> <br />FROM: Jo <br /> <br />DATE: March 4, 1996 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Agenda Item 4d., March 12-13-14, 1996, Board Meeting-- <br />Tremont Mutual Ditch Company <br />Approval of a Small Project Construction Fund Loan in amount of $27,000 <br />to rehabilitate the Company's Diversion Structure on the South Platte River. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />The Tremont Mutual Ditch Company (located in Morgan County), has submitted an application <br />for a loan to rehabilitate their west headgate structure, at their South Platte diversion, They are <br />requesting a loan in the amount of $27K (75% of the estimated total project cost of $36K), <br /> <br />The purpose of the project is to rebuild one of the Company's existing headgates, about 6 miles <br />east of Fort Morgan, The west headgate was rebuilt after the 1965 flood, and was totally <br />destroyed during spring runoff flooding in 1995, The river flooded to the north, and cut a new <br />channel around the diversion dam across the river (owned by the Lower Platte and Beaver.) <br />Tremont uses this diversion dam, under contract with Lower Platte and Beaver, Although the <br />diversion dam was not damaged, the Tremont west headgate was washed out. <br /> <br />The west headgate can not be used until repairs are made, Operation with just the east headgate <br />would cause sand to plug the ditch, and render it inoperable in a short time, <br /> <br />Preliminary engineering design work as well as a draft feasibility study have been completed by <br />Bart Woodard and Cecil Osborne, P,E, <br />.:- <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />The proposed project will maintain the current capacity of 70 CFS, with an ability to supply <br />about 140 acre feet of water per day during irrigation season, The Company actually diverted <br />2410,75 acre feet through the structure in 1994, according to S,E,O records, About 2000 acres <br />are irrigated by the Tremont Ditch. <br /> <br />-- <br />
